This is the one hundred and second installment of West Wind, your weekly drop of thoughts, ideas, and info for this Season.

Today is the feast day of Our Lady of Guadalupe! I feel especially connected to this celebration because it is what eventually led to me being here writing for you today! As someone with Mexican ancestry, I am directly impacted by the actions of St. Juan Diego (whose feast day was on Tuesday) and what he did to solidify Catholicism in the area where he lived.

One of the primary miracles of Our Lady of Guadalupe was causing roses to grow in the middle of Winter, and not only that but a variety that was only found in Spain at the time. We could use some of that right now, as we just got another load of snow dumped on us.

I’m off to the printer to get the books to sell at an event tomorrow, so I’ll leave you with a thematically appropriate Florabeast! No one knows who first decided to get on the backs of these these thorny creatures and try to ride them, but I’m sure the pioneers are glad they did. Let’s ride off into the snowy sunset, and no matter what your weather is like, be sure to enjoy your weekend.
