This is the ninety-fifth installment of West Wind, your weekly drop of thoughts, ideas, and info for this Season.

As a non-smartphone user, I carry a camera with me wherever I go. I encounter moments of beauty just about everywhere, and have made a good camera part of my daily kit. Unfortunately, the camera that I normally use to take pictures for this newsletter is having some technical difficulties, so I had to pull out the backup camera. And if that one ends up failing, I have a backup for the backup. A fourth? That would be ludicrous.

They’re all digital point-and-shoot cameras with no way to post photos to social media or anything. If I want to share something I get to take it home, pull out the SD card, plug it into the desktop, and go from there. It sounds annoying in this age of instant transfer, but you get used to it pretty quick.

Just because I can’t share a picture quickly doesn’t mean I can’t take one quickly. I have to be ready whenever a moment of beauty comes along, since they are everywhere. So when I was driving home from dropping my kids off, on a route I don’t normally take, I knew I had to capture this right away.

The cloud cover was positioned just so that it created this strange mixing of yellow and pink sky. If red sky in the morning is a sailor’s warning, what does it mean to have both?

I stopped at a cemetery to get out and get this wider-angled shot. I didn’t have my tripod, but leaning up against the car does the trick too.

And after waiting just a few minutes, it had all gone. The sky was back to a uniform gray, with just a hint of yellow around the edges. I saw another car stop at the edge of the cemetery and I hope they were enjoying the view too. And praying for the deceased buried there, that’s going to be very important in just a little while!

Don’t worry, I’ve got this! Temperatures around here have gotten lower than usual, so here’s a spicy little Florabeast to warm things up. Okay, it isn’t little, but the point remains.

There will be some very interesting things happening soon, which I hope to be able to share in the next issue. Thanks for reading and always look up!
