ZMT Dispatch for June

77th Day of Spring

Wow, it doesn’t feel like Spring anymore, that’s for sure. Warm weather is here to stay, it seems. There are plenty of thunderstorms in the forecast, also, most of which pass us by safely, but every now and then there are some real nasty ones.

Oh, by the way, welcome to the first monthly Dispatch newsletter on our new provider, Beehiiv! Some quick housekeeping about the new platform.

If you’re busy today and open this email as a tab in your browser to read later, you’ll notice that you have to be signed in to do that. Don’t worry, it’s free, just use the same email address that you received this message on, and you’ll be able to get in. This is to try and preserve the cozy nature of the previous Dispatch emails, and ensure that readers are serious about this whole endeavor. In the future when I send out a gated post like this, I will make it clear at the beginning. If you have any issues or questions about this new system, please reach out via email or a comment!

Outside- Gardening, nature, life

For those of you coming from Substack exclusively who have never gotten one of these emails, it’s split into several sections. In the intro section I talk briefly about what’s going on, usually about the weather or something interesting. Next comes whatever plant or animal life is thriving near us, or anything happening in the garden. It doesn’t look like there will be much garden activity this year, but I’ll talk more about that later.

With the warmer weather, we have a lot of bugs becoming active in the grassy areas around us. That means the lizards who live under our deck have been active too. This particular specimen has been around for several years now, and her tail is just now starting to grow back after some unseen incident. The area under our deck is home to lizards, rabbits, and a colony of paper wasps, meaning we have quite the ecosystem just under our feet.

Inside- Writing, reading, other stuff

Then, I share what’s going on in the creative space. The biggest creative thing this month was the unification of the two newsletters from Substack and Zoho Campaigns to Beehiiv, and there’s been a lot more too. May saw a slew of new content, including a new Frontier Flora story release!

Other Florabeasts released in May include the Lavendeer, the Oax, and the Chickory.

Unfortunately it looks like some Gobblins got into the series of tubes that powers the Frontier Flora codex and caused some havoc in their search for food. The Chickory was last week’s lore drop, but the link in the email didn’t work as intended, and redirected to the Oax instead. A Guardiner has been posted outside the tube room to ensure that won’t happen again!

Aside from Frontier Flora, production is continuing on the audio version of Paper & Feathers! There’s no ETA at this point, so just stay subscribed to find out when that will be a reality.

What I’ve been Reading

I actually won this book in a contest from Theresa of Saint Sprites, so it was signed! I also got a copy of Bobby Angel’s book, but didn’t get to sign that until I met him at a conference earlier this year. I probably should have posted that somewhere and tagged him, right? Anyway, this book is a charming series of byte-sized chapters about how games relate to the spiritual life. The author covers modern as well as retro games, so I actually knew what he was talking about more often than not! It made me smile, so you might like it too.

What I’ve been listening to

Duelyst is kind of a sad story. It was a tactical collectible card game that was pretty interesting, but the devs decided to shut the game down in early 2020 because they weren’t making enough money from it. Then something really big happened a few months later and everyone started playing online games more than ever before! Fortunately, the soundtrack lives on, and it’s definitely worth a listen.

And that’s the end of another newsletter. Thanks again for sticking with me, it makes it all worth it. Enjoy the warmer weather, and remember, all is well.

This isn’t a sunset from the house, it was so good I just had to pull over and capture it
